The Dacia Duster SUV will cost less than £10k; first deliveries in January

Renault’s budget brand Dacia has confirmed the Skoda Yeti-sized Dacia Duster SUV will cost less than £10,000 when the car is officially launched in the UK at the beginning of 2013. All-wheel drive versions of the Duster will be priced from £12.5k.

Prices of the Ford Fiesta-rivalling Dacia Sandero supermini - which will be launched at the same time - will start at less than £7k.

The Dacia Duster will be produced as a right-hand drive model for the first time at the new Renault-Nissan Alliance factory in India.

In Europe, the Duster will be available in two and four-wheel drive, with either a 108bhp 1.6-litre 16V petrol engine or 84bhp and 104bhp 1.5-litre diesels. It is billed as a genuine off-roader when fitted with four-wheel drive, thanks, Dacia says, to its 20cm ground clearance, 30 degree approach angle and 35 degree departure angle.

Further details including exact pricing and range line-up, will be confirmed on June 28.

Now that's what I call VALUE, if nothing else if should shake up the market and maybe lower some prices

Hydrogen cars just went POP

Best thing to come out of Renault in years .

Dacia are very popular in Germany .Basic no nonsence cars at rockbottom price . And yes there is definitley a market for that sort of thing .

But I bet the first reveiw here will moan because it doesnt have a touchy feely squishy dashboard !

This is the sort of basic cheap vehicle is long overdue on the UK market and I can see it being a success.

This sort of pricing also bodes well for the rest of the range.

My hope is that they don't become too greedy in the UK after launch and hike the prices.

It's all about the twisties........

The Duster is selling well in Italy. This February the market got a smashing -17.8% in sales compared to already bad 2011, just three brands improved: Kia, Dacia and Lamborghini.

The Duster is behind the best seller Nissan Qashqai but ahead the Rav4.

This could proved to be a big hit for Renault, if it proves to be reliable. Very attractive pricing.

Reanult will be shifting their own brand in China (And Brazil etc) whilst selling old technology in Europe plus the EV range. It's clever. People in Europe want either prestige cars (whatever that means now) or cheap ones. Sidestepping the whole over capacity problem in a rather stylish way. They must have seen this coming a long time ago.

Bring back steel wheels.

Now that's proper value for money! It certainly shows up the mainstream as the overpriced cars that they are! Just imagine if Dacia gave us a 200bhp sportscar - it would probably cost about £15k!

Rather than the Squishqai I think its real competitor will be the up coming Kia Soul 4wd and it will be very interesting if Autocar could run a side by side long term test in these two rather than swishing around in a sexy red jag gobbling up the worlds natural resources! (dont worry Sutters I am only jealous!!)

I don't know if it will be available in the UK.
