CC100 Speedster concept heads over 100 Aston Martin cars on 22km lap

A parade of more than 100 Aston Martins took to the famous Nürburgring this weekend ahead of the ongoing 24 hours race, lead by the CC100 Speedster concept.

The cavalcade, planned as part of the marque’s centenary celebrations, also featured Sir Stirling Moss at the wheel of his original 1959 Nürburgring 1000 km-winning DBR1. A DB5 used in the film Skyfall, a One-77 hypercar and a special centenary edition Vanquish also took part in the parade.

Owners and Aston Martin enthusiasts followed suit on the 22km lap. Showroom examples of DB3, DB2/4 Drophead, DB7 Zagato, DB9, Aston Martin Vantage, Rapide, DBS and V12 Vanquish S models were also represented among the crowd.

Aston Martin CEO and CC100 Speedster driver Dr Ulrich Bez said: “It was a fabulous occasion. To see so many of our great cars together on the Nordschleife – the ‘Green Hell’ where we test and develop our modern road cars – was, I hope, truly memorable for the spectators and drivers.”

Aston also continues to have a strong showing in the Nürburgring 24 hours race with a V12 Vantage GT3, a hybrid hydrogen Rapide S and a V12 Vantage competing.

The team is currently running in tenth position with under six hours of the race still remaining.

Why in Germany?

So Aston Martin celebrate 100 years in Germany and Porsche will celebrate 50 years of the 911 at Goodwood..wrong way round I think....

The Green Hell.

That's what they should have called it. It's horrible. Elegant? No. Functional? Not really. A needless expense at a time when the company cannot afford properly to develop new products? I should think so. By all means celebrate a centenary, but - well, it's too late now - not like this.
