Saudi Arabia has banned vehicle number plates which are deemed offensive .

The move comes after newer Saudi plates were changed to include three Arabic letters that are also shown in the Latin alphabet.

This resulted in a fashion for car owners to buy personalised plates that deliberately spelt out words in English. Examples include "nut", "but", "bad", or "bar".

Now Saudi newspaper al-Watan has said 90,000 existing plates will replaced, as they spell out banned words.

The list of banned words is topped by "USA", and includes "sex" and "ass".
