German car maker adds revised 434bhp GTS version to the Cayenne SUV range, while also launching a new entry-level model

Porsche has upgraded its Porsche Cayenne SUV range with a revised version of the sporty GTS, which also introducing a new entry-level model.

The launch of the Cayenne GTS follows on from the recently revealed 911 Carrera GTS, as well as the Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS models unveiled earlier this year. The model is on display at the LA motor show.

Powered by a 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing 434bhp and 443lb ft - increases of 20bhp and 63lb ft over the previous V8-engined GTS - Porsche says the Cayenne GTS can reach 62mph in 5.2 seconds. That time falls to 5.1 seconds with Porsche's optional Sport Chrono pack. The Cayenne GTS has a top speed of 162mph.

Other changes include updates to Porsche's Active Suspension Management (PASM) system to give a sportier ride, while the car has also been lowered by 20mm. The GTS borrows its brake discs - 380mm in diameter at the front and 358mm at the back - from the faster and more powerful Cayenne Turbo.

The GTS also gets several styling upgrades, including a front-end design borrowed from the Cayenne Turbo, plus more aggressive styling for the side sills and wheel arches. The model sits on 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, Alcantara-clad sports seats feature alongside leather trim and various GTS decorations.

At the other end of the range, Porsche has also introduced a new entry-level Cayenne. Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V6 engine producing 296bhp, the model can reach 62mph in 7.7 seconds - dropping to 7.6 seconds with the Sport Chrono pack - and has a top speed of 143mph.

Porsche quotes official consumption figures of 30.7mpg, alongside CO2 emissions of 215g/km - improvements of 2.2mpg and 21g/km respectively on the old entry-level Cayenne.

Order books for both models are already open - the entry-level Cayenne is priced at £49,576, while the GTS comes with a price tag of £72,523.
