The Lexus RX450h is powered by a hybrid petrol-electric drivetrain that features a 295bhp petrol unit driving the front wheels, with non-permanent four-wheel-drive and regenerative braking to help save fuel. It will replace both the existing RX400h hybrid and the RX350 when it goes on sale in the UK.

The new BMW Mini E has a 201bhp (150kw) electric motor and batteries instead of the standard four-cylinder engine. Currently available to the select few via leasing, it's regarded as a major step towards a full-production electric Mini.
