Media partner and national radio broadcaster talkRADIO will return once more with a special three-hour show on the Autocar Awards

Following a hugely successful talkRADIO Autocar Awards special broadcast in 2016, the national radio station will return once more with a three-hour show covering this year’s Autocar Awards, which take place on 23 May.

Hosted at Silverstone, the home of British motorsport, talkRADIO will be on hand to get the latest news, views and opinions from the exclusive guest list of CEOs, board members, chief designers and engineers from across the automotive industry.

talkRADIO’s The Motor Show host, Andy Jaye, said: “It’s fantastic news that we’ll be hosting a special show from the Autocar Awards again this year. The awards celebrate the very best in the industry and I am really looking forward to taking the team to Silverstone to talk to the winners and major players from the motoring world. We have a very special relationship with Autocar on The Motor Show and this partnership only serves to cement that further.”

The evening’s three headline awards are the Issigonis Trophy, the Sturmey Award and the new for 2017 Editor’s Award. This latest accolade will be given each year to the person Autocar believes to have made the biggest impact on their company's success over the past year and beyond.

The Issigonis Trophy remains the most prized award and is named after Sir Alec Issigonis, the creator of the Mini, one of the most iconic British cars of all time. The winner will be the person who has made the most outstanding contribution to the automotive industry over the past 12 months.

The Sturmey Award is named after the founding editor of Autocar, Henry Sturmey, who, foreseeing the popularity of cars when only a few were on the road, set up the magazine in 1895. The Sturmey Award aims to recognise innovation and excellence in the motoring industry.

Autocar editor Mark Tisshaw said: “The team at talkRADIO really do bring another element to the Autocar Awards. Last year they pitched Jaguar head of design Ian Callum against Renault head of design Laurens van den Acker and hosted fun interviews with eight major automotive CEOs. Our readers, and car enthusiasts in general, should make sure not to miss it this year. No other radio broadcast has this kind of access to so many key automotive industry professionals.”
