Honda’s US market brand Acura will show a concept previewing its next MDX at the Detroit motor show in January. In the US the MDX, a seven-seat SUV, is a rival for BMW’s X5 and Mercedes’ M-class.

The current MDX has been one of Acura’a biggest sellers in the US. However, it is now five years old and will be replaced by the all-new car in 2013, which will be longer in an attempt to increase room for the third row passengers.

The mechanical makeup is likely to remain similar to the current model’s, with a large-capacity V6, a six speed auto ’box and Honda’s Super Handling All Wheel Drive.

Acura is planning to expand its operations into Russia, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates. It already sells in China.
