The Destino uses the four-door body of the Karma, but its kerb weight is reduced by 363kg and its range-extender hybrid drivetrain and battery pack has been replaced with a lighter, conventional V8.
Powered by the same supercharged 7.0-litre motor fitted to the range-topping Corvette ZR1, the VL Destino develops 638bhp and 604lb ft. It can be specified with either a manual or automatic gearbox.
The car is a result of a collaboration by industrialist Gilbert Villereal and former General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, who describes the car as the “revenge of the internal combustion engine”.
The Destino is currently undergoing testing, although a limited run of 200 examples are expected to be released in the second half of 2013, sporting a price tag of around $180,000 (£111,545).
