Ford's vice president of Asia Pacific Joe Hinrichs has downplayed suggestions that demand for the new Ford Focus ST in the region could reinvigorate plans to launch an ultimate RS model of Ford's global hatchback.
The new Focus ST was unveiled at the Beijing motor show today, and will go on sale in the country later this year.
Given China's enthusiasm for established brand names and performance vehicles - factors which are fueling sales of BMW's M division and Mercedes' AMG In the country - speculation has suggested Chinese sales could be key to any RS rebirth.
But Henrich cautioned: "Let's see how ST sales go before we look too far ahead. There is interest in this type of car in China, but we're testing the water so far as sales go. It's too early to talk about RS or indeed Mustang going on sale here, but as ever the market demand will dictate what we do."
