Mini Clubman needs a bigger boot

Chris Harris

Seems most people find the positioning of the single rear door the most irritating aspect of the new Mini Clubman. But as a prospective buyer, I just couldn’t get over how small the thing was inside.

Looking at the meagre dimensions added to it over the hatch should have given me a clue, but for rear room and bootspace it’s nowhere near big enough. That’s why the hatch works; it’s bought by people who need next to no space, therefore it tempts buyers away from all manner of other machinery. Not so the Clubman, it’s an estate car for people who don’t need an estate car.

Which means it’s not much to not very many people. I'd take a Skoda Roomster and a bag of saved cash any day.
