Brilliant Schuey faces police probe

Will Powell

German police have launched an investigation into reports that Michael Schumacher took over the wheel of a German taxi and drove at breakneck speeds to catch a flight. Have they got nothing better to do?

Local law enforcers told Bild newspaper: “That was an offence against transport laws. We will have a hearing with the taxi driver to resolve the matter." Get a life.

That said, the story makes me like Schumacher a lot more. It helps me forget his Damon Hill ramming days. Easier since he’s now retired from beating the Brits in F1.

Now I can admire his astonishing time-topping performance in F1 testing last month, and his rapid run on a MotoGP Ducati in Catalunya (see video below). And he was on it again yesterday, finishing second overall in London’s Race of Champions. Sheer class.

After impressing Wembley stadium, Schuey shrugged off the taxi story. “If I remember my years of professional motorsport, all the things I’ve done, that to make out of a flea an elephant here… You just have to laugh about it”, he said. Quite right.

Have they got nothing better to do?  Get a life?  Obviously not written by somebody who follows driving laws.

To drive a taxi you have to have permission from the relevant bodies and pass tests, otherwise you are breaking the law and are not insured to drive the relevant taxi.  Driving at 'breakneck speed' means no doubt he has risked the safety of other road users, many carrying children, but of course, because it's Michael Schumacher he can't do any wrong.  Time for the commentator to grow up and realise the dangers of what Schumacher did and Schumi should be prosecuted for this.

I have lived on a main road out of Manchester for nearly 10 years and the number of serious car and bus accidents, 2 fatal have shocked me enough to find the 'laughing off' of episodes like this disgusting.  If something had gone wrong, another motorist pulling out as he didn't see you because of the sun shining or a parked car for example, a speeding car could have been disastrous.  For the driver not to be insured would be even worse.  Time to grow up folks and accept the rules and responsibilities.  By the way, i'm not your usual moaner, i'm someone who has been around and seen too many bad accidents.  With a member of the Traffic Police in the family, i have seen too many times how it has affected him when he has to pick up the pieces after a major accident which was caused by people who thought it was alright to speed.

Dear god man, i bet you iron your y fronts every morning too dont you?

Seriously have you no soul? do you even enjoy driving???

Or did you decide to preach to people about an 'incident' that nobody bar Mr schumacher and said taxi driver even know the true happenings of.

People like you in this world scare me, they really do.

sounds like Schumi broke the law... and if he broke the law then he has to pay.  this doesn't sound like a simple case of driving too fast, but rather that he "drove at full-throttle around corners and overtook in unbelievable places".  sounds like he was endangering people's lives and for that he should be punished.

much like the other guy I am not a "usual moaner" nor do I iron my y fronts.  Rather I reserve my enthusiastic driving to track days.
