The challenge is on – Peugeot v Skoda

Peugeot Rally Team
The ninth leg of the 2009 IRC championship is here. The Rally of Asturias is one of the most famous rally’s in Spain and takes place in Oviedo, a town in the north of Spain.

With Kris leading the drivers’ championship by three points and Jan Kopecky next in line, the Asturias Rally is crucial in the race for the title.

Kris had a testing time in the Czech Republic last month, struggling with flu and competing against the likes of Kopecky and Juho Hanninen on their home turf, yet he still managed to secure second place.

According to Kris, this weekend, with him in better health, the main priority is to try to finish ahead of Kopecky. Talking to Kris after the recce on Wednesday, he said that they have found the stages more technical than expected.  It was wet during the recce but the forecast is good for the weekend and no rain is expected.  And with the last couple of rally’s taking place on tarmac, Kris and Paul are feeling well prepared.

Shakedown happened this morning and whilst we don’t have the final times, Kris and Paul are happy with their performance.

A lot of local drivers are participating this weekend; Alberto Hieva is one which Kris and his co-driver Paul Nagle believe they will need to watch.  Kris said that there are five or six people who could win this weekend.  Nicolas Vouilloz is fast along with Freddy Loix and of course Kopecky.

If Kris and Paul finish first, second or third, dependent on where Kopecky ends up, San Remo could be the decider for the championship prior to the Rally of Scotland in November.

Exciting but nerve-wracking times for the Peugeot UK team.

Good luck guys, it will be a great achievement for Peugeot UK if they can grab the IRC title in their first year.

sorry guys kopecky is 1st meeke 3rd, Škoda is better than peugeot, and czech drivers are best. JWRC title for Prokop IRC title for Kopecký, Enge and Charouz to take Le Mans series title for Aston and at last Vršecký is defending title against albacete in trucks with Buggyra. What a great season for us. Keep up boys, let the most beatiful flag flutter on the highest pole.  And one thing, if MB pull rosberg to Brawn against Barrichelo, i wish Brawn only the worst. Button and Brawn are most overestimated losers on the circuit. Sham and Snail, what a combination. All hail mighty Rubens beating Button whit ride in flames:-). Whit this sharp practices(Ferrari, Renault(whole team of frauds), now Brawn) F1 colud no longer been called motorsport. Deeply worried about Kubica. I Have seen him on irc rally, he is a big friend of Kopecký and great unostentatious guy. No shithead boasting about how many hookers he had in Monte Carlo! True loser this Button! I won´t be proud of this man. But Kris is very good, very fucking good. I have seen him by my place (Zlín, IRC 14days ago) and he was devilishly fast, but was a bit unlucky. Keep going Kris GB needs somene like Colin, I think you can.
