BMW is using its new i3 to deliver journalists and more important people to the Frankfurt motor show

As ever, there's lots of debate about its styling. Modernists says it looks great, but opinion is divided. On the other side of the fence, Traditionalists argue against its radical styling, asking "why didn' they make it look good?"

The wraps came off the i3 back in July, and overall Autocar readers have seemed to enjoy the car. Some questioned the price - £30,680 falling to £25,680 with the government's £5000 electric car rebate, but overall commentors on our story praised BMW for producing a great looking electric vehicle and for taking such a leap of faith. This is the first series production BMW, remember, to rely purely on electric propulsion.

BMW is content, however, knowing that a controversial reaction is better than no reaction at all.

And yet, for the biggest motor show of the year, amazingly there's no scrum among journalists to get in.
