At least Land Rover's at Moscow

John McIlroy
Moscow's motor show is pretty quiet, but Land Rover has at least turned up with the revised Freelander, making its public debut here today.

I jumped inside to see if the much-heralded improvements to the cabin have really materialised. They're important, after all, on a car that's beginning to look a little pricey against opposition from the Far East.

First impressions? Positive. The show car has nicely finished leather, a smart fascia and what looks like more expensive materials all round. And of course, core Freelander strengths, such as that raised driving position, remain.

It's not quite enough for Moscovites, though. They're busy pawing over the Range Rover Autobiography instead... If anything, it feels much more Range Rover-esque inside. Which was almost certainly the goal.

It's a pity there's no 7 seater version. It would at lease give  the Freelander a decent sized boot.

Freelander's starting to look very old-hat now.

Like one of those previous-generation special editions; Renault did this with the old 5, made it into the Campus edition.
