Glorious Goodwood is better than ever

Chas Hallett
You join me live from the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

With the sun baking down and surrounded by the world’s best supercars, some of the latest concepts and the pick of competition cars from the past 50 years there really is no place that I’d rather be. It’s petrolhead heaven.

The F o S goes from strength to strength. I’ve been coming here for the last decade and every passing year it seems to get that little bit better, that little bit busier and that little bit better supported by car makers and motorsport teams.

So one thing occurs to me. Let’s not worry too much about the demise of the London motor show. We’ve already got a motor show that’s the envy of the motoring world and it takes place in West Sussex once a year.

Sorry Chas but looking at a car I will never own does nothing for me. Like going to an art museum. Neither does watching one blast past me up a hill. Really can't see the excitement.

I have just got home from Goodwood and had a brilliant day- you can so much closer to moving cars and drivers/owners than you can anywhere else and the noise is amazing-  noise of the day from the Zonda and suprisingly, the focus RS.  still cannot get used to electric cars wizzing silently past

So what exactly reading a blog about an event for car enthusiasts, Steelydan? I don't mean to seem rude, but surely if looking at a car you'll never own does nothing for you, let alone watching it blast past you, then why are you at Autocar.co.uk? Your comment just seems somewhat redundant.

hamishi,

gotta agree with you there, why the hell read this page, let alone respond to it if you ain't interested in any car you will never own Steelydan, unless you are saying you are so wedged up you already own EVERY car you could possibly want, go on, give us a list.

And your comment about art museum just shows you to be a Philistine!!, so never buy a CD 'cus you cant play the instruments?, never watch TV or films 'cus you cant act, never ever looks at a pretty girl/boy 'cus you can never atain them, what can you do then???

I went yesterday and it was as fantastic as ever. I love to see cars I will never own as the ones I possibly will own are bloody dull in comparison!

Car of the day for me was the Veyron Pur Sang and the V12 Matra MS670 when it was started up. Like the sky was being torn apart. Fantastic.
