Geneva 2008: Ford's Fiesta is a real head-turner

Chas Hallett

fiesta on stand The current Fiesta's good to drive. But let's be honest, it’s got the emotional appeal of the last turkey in the shop. That’s why I've been so keen to crawl all over the new one here in Geneva.

Talk about a transformation. The new car looks great and has done the job of restoring my faith in the ability of small cars to turn heads. Taut, sporty, and classy. Inside and out. The cabin, especially, looks a million times better than the current one.

Best of all it has kept the same proportions as the outgoing model so it hasn't repeated the folly of the French minis and ended up looking more bloated than they need to. Now that so many superminis lack pizzazz, save the Mazda 2 and Corsa, the new Fiesta seems even more welcome to me.
