GM enters the fuel business

Chas Hallett
Just when you thought that GM was going all out to convince us that electric hybrids were the only solution to reducing CO2, company boss Rick Wagoner told us here in Detroit that ethanol powered cars are a much quicker solution to combating cars' role in climate change.
Wagoner's message was that there needs to be many more ethanol filling stations and cars. And fast.
He even announced that the company was planning on getting into bed with an outfit called Coskata. Until now grain has been the main source of ethanol but this forces up food prices and takes over land. This company claims that it can make it out of anything: plastics, tyres, agricultural waste etc. It also uses less energy than normal methods and it will be being mass produced by 2011.
A car company also helping to make its own fuel? The world really is changing fast.
