Is it curtains for Chrysler?

Chas Hallett

The news that GM is in even more trouble than we thought could have some unpleasant ramifications for Chrysler.

Chrysler Don't forget that Renault-Nissan has already confirmed that it has stopped talks with Chrysler, and now reports are circulating that GM has done the same thing, following the announcement of the latest disastrous financial results.

Where does that leave Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep?

In a much worse situation than it was yesterday. What with the news of Ford's appalling position, the joke that the Big Three could turn into the Medium-Sized Two may not be quite so funny after all.

Let Chrysler go.

It's like a gangrenous leg.  No, the idea of amputation is not pleasant but in the long term it is going to save the rest of the body.

Sorry, this was the best analogy I could think of.  You get the idea though.

There you go. Getting the central bank lending rate down to 1% is the cure for an ailing economy - not. Oh dear, Brown, Darling and Merv the swerve King are headed the US way!

Enough of this Big Three talk, it's pitiful. The US and its mighty automakers are history. Can we have a new record please? If it wasn't for the fact we share a common language we in Britain wouldn't get half of this drivel from the States on the media channels. There is a world outside of the US, increasingly so. The US is in terminal decline like Britain after WWI and more obviously after WWII. It can't be stopped, it's gonna happen, just get it over with. The problem is, the buggers with their financial weapons of mass destruction, one quadrillion dollars of worthless derivatives, are gonna take us all down with them. Spoilt brat child: if I can't play, no one's gonna play.

I agree with Horseandcarts comment, the media in the UK is brainwashed by the US every time you turn the news on its something US this US that US. I study International Business and America is in so much debt is unbelievable, if it was not for there influence over country's they would be in big trouble, and of course they always have the media on there side. We all know American cars will never be popular in Europe and having seen American cars they are the worst built things ever and I feel like a little kid sitting it cause like everything American BIG IS BETTER

The UK needs to first fix its own economic problems and stop following what America do as we are reaching our peak and will go down if we don't maintain it, China is the next big country and already has the highest FDI investment in the world and soon they might make some  good cars... I say some :)

It might be painful medicine, but surely we have to let brands die when they cease to be wanted. If these brands could make cars of any quality or with design appeal they would survive.

The truth is for years they have turned out mainly dogs and been udone by European or Japanese manufacturers who build better quality, better looking, better value and better performing products.

Why should the tax payer support a failing business?

So they can turn out more of the same....
