Welcome to the DAFTAs...

Steve Sutcliffe
Welcome to the DAFTAs (Deserving Awards For Transport And Science).

In no particular order, this week they are:

Most irritating web contributor of the week; nickscheele
So far nickscheele has made approximately 56, 987 contributions to our web forum, none of which have been very positive, most of which have been curiously irritating to read. The thing about nickscheele, though, is that quite often he’s right. Which is doubly irritating from our point of view. Keep up the good work, nickscheele, and remember; try to smile at least once every 24 hours.

Yarn of the week; petrol prices reaching record levels
The AA has predicted that petrol prices will soon rise above the previous record of 119.7p per litre, due to the “increase in the wholesale cost of petrol.” Whatever that means. Surely it would be better, say, if we could agree to pay for our petrol on a half-sale basis, a bit like they do in the Middle East? Actually no, sorry, that’s not possible given the mess our economy is still in, is it? Perhaps instead our petrol could be quantitatively eased into our tanks at, say, £2 a gallon – just as it is in the USA.

Fuel prices to hit record levels

Yawn of the week; the Bahrain GP
Nice rule change Mr & Mrs FIA, bang on target with those new fuel regs.

Horn of the week; the Audi R8 GT3
No qualification required

Hardcore Audi R8 planned

PR announcement of the week; Lotus/Naomi Campbell to save the world (including Haiti)
Just when you thought that everything was about to go pear shaped in the world, the extraordinary combination of Lotus and Naomi Campbell has lunged forwards and agreed to save us from ourselves. So everything’s fine now; you can all go home and sleep soundly, happy in the knowledge that Norfolk Naomi will be at our sides if and when the sh*t next hits the fan.

Car of the week; Peugeot RCZ
Who cares how it drives when it looks as good as this? At a stroke the RCZ makes the TT et al seem dull, predictable, and strangely un-French by comparison. And the best news of all is that it’s actually not that rubbish to drive. In fact, it’s really quite good. More of the same please, Peugeot.

So until this time next week…

more positive news: Jim Rogers, the former partner of the man who broke the Bank of England(George Soros), has just said that “Things are pretty bad for sterling for the long, long, long term,”

Looking like petrol at £1.50/litre by Christmas. Happy days.

Can't say I agree about the RCZ making the TT look dull, unless you are referring to the new model.

The RCZ looks like a poor copy of the original TT, which was a unique, bold design with clean lines. It is only familiarity due to its popularity that makes it seem dull.

I didn,t know George Soros was a bum boy !

"thing about nickscheele, though, is that quite often he’s right" - what, about the govt. being perverts? We've still not got to the bottom (tee hee) of that one. I see the vicar of doomsday has already turned this thread into another 'Thought for the Day' segment where everything leads back to the trade deficit rather than to Jesus. Irritating doesn't quite cover it.

John McToon March 19, 2010 3:29 PM

Oh don't encourage him. FFS.

fuzzybear March 19, 2010 3:32 PM

Nice feature! definitely needed for friday afternoons :o)

Phillip McCavitie March 20, 2010 10:21 AM

Something to aspire to then, the Sutcliffe Award for irritating contributions.

Me, McToon, VP, TwatedEfforts, DanV2, Cavellini.....

I'm going for Cavellini next week.

fuzzybear March 20, 2010 5:07 PM

One feature I really like about the Peugeot RCZ is the chromed/brushed metal A-C pillar. I have a feeling that would work very well on the new Jag XJ instead of the blacked out C pillar, have the A-C pillars in a brushed aluminium

noluddite March 20, 2010 5:40 PM

Makes the TT seem un-French???? Perhaps it's because the TT is, erm, NOT French. Am I missing something??? P.S. Sorry if you find this post annoying. Actually, no, I'm not sorry.

Peter Cavellini March 21, 2010 2:32 PM

Ithought that when the oil price per barrel dropped that the litre price dropped also?, BANG!!,yep, i was dreaming AGAIN!!

Drawmer March 21, 2010 7:45 PM

Don't you mean: "Norfolking use" Naomi?
