Infiniti's new range extender sportscar concept will be known as the Emerg-e

Infiniti’s new range-extender sports car concept will be called the Infiniti Emerg-e, the Japanese company has revealed.

The Infiniti Emerg-e – which will be officially unveiled at the Geneva motor show next month and has only been seen in teaser images so far – is a rear-drive, two-seat performance car that also offers zero-emissions capability from its combination of petrol engine and battery pack.

The Emerg-e follows the 600bhp hybrid Infiniti Essence concept seen at Geneva in 2009 and the front-drive Etherea hatchback concept that was shown at the Swiss show last year.

The Emerg-e will also be the first mid-engined car made by Infiniti. The manufacturer is also plotting an all-electric saloon that is expected to break cover at the New York motor show in early April.

Sorry, but i'm of the mind that Hydrogen will be better than hybrid whatever!,it's cleaner, from raw materials to production

Genuine question: have you any info on clean H2 production techniques as I've always been sceptical about hydrogen powered vehicles due to the difficulties of producing large quantities of hydrogen cleanly. Thanks.

Genuine i don't really know answer, i would think if it's 100% cleaner emissions would offset the extraction of Hydrogen, plus as i said, i think most people like to fuel there cars the way we have for decades,as opposed to finding a charge a charge point and having to wait hours for it,whereas filling up with Hydrogen is as quick as filling with Petrol/Diesel, as for H2 production, i'm sure there are web pages full of details in how it done etc etc,i just think it's less hassle to use than having to plug in every night or when ever.

the range anxiety debate still remains
It's a range extender - therefore it has an internal combustion engine as well as the electric motor. It is not a pure electric vehicle so the range anxiety is no worse than in a conventional car!
Sorry, but i'm of the mind that Hydrogen will be better than hybrid whatever!,it's cleaner, from raw materials to production, the energy required to produce the product, all the things involved in the whole manufacture process makes them expensive, does not help the enviroment, whereas, Hydrogen only residue is clean, drinkable water, yes, there's still the other processes, but the cars would be cheaper, plus fueling from a dedicated site (Fuel forecourt) would be more acceptable as opposed to finding a charge point, the Government is looking into Hydrogen,so the old fashioned idea of filling your tank will comfort most of us, never the less, range extenders maybe ok, but most people never trust the hype.
