Vauxhall's new Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition has 202bhp and a 0-60mph time of 6.5sec

Vauxhall will take the fight to the Renaultsport Clio 200 Cup with this hardcore VXR Nurburgring Edition of its Corsa.

Tweaks to the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine’s management and turbocharger systems and a new stainless steel dual sports exhaust have helped boost power from 189bhp to 202bhp and torque from a maximum of 196lb ft to 207lb ft over the standard VXR.

This results in a 143mph top speed and 0-60mph pace of 6.5sec. By comparison, the 197bhp, 158lb ft 2.0-litre Clio RS covers 0-62mph in 6.9sec and can reach 141mph.

To help translate the extra power to the road, the Nurburgring Edition gets a mechanical multi-plate limited-slip differential.

As the car’s name suggest, the final sign-ff was at the Nurburgring where its bespoke Bilstein springs and dampers were honed. The VXR special rides 20mm lower at the front and 15mm lower than the standard car.

Other additions include new Brembo brakes that are 30 per cent lighter than the standard VXR’s, and retuned ABS, ESC and traction control systems.

Visual changes include high-gloss grey alloys, Nurburgring logos and two new colour choices: apple green ‘Grasshopper’ and red ‘Henna’. Nurburgring plaques also feature inside, as does bespoke white stitching for the Recaro seats.

Sales start in late May and it will cost is excess of £5000 more than the Clio Cup at £22,295.
