Performance version of Infinti's V6 coupe uncovered on eve of Pebble Beach launch

Infiniti has launched its new performance line ahead of this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours with this more potent version of the G coupé.

The Infiniti Performance Line - designed to give the Japanese premium brand a rival for AMG and BMW’s M division - brings more power and modifications to styling, suspension and exhaust.

The car’s 3.7-litre V6 powerplant gets a retuned engine management set-up that helps to increase power by 18bhp, to 348bhp. There’s also slightly more torque (at 276lb ft) and, Infiniti claims, a more linear power delivery.

The G coupé also gets an IPL-tuned exhaust that’s designed to offer a fruitier note and reduce back pressure by 30 per cent.

The main chassis mods are stiffer spring rates (by 20 per cent at the front and 10 per cent at the rear, retuned shock absorbers, revised steering and a viscous limited-slip differential. Infiniti claims the new set-up delivers “confident handling, flat ride and smooth ride comfort”.

The styling tweaks include revised front and rear bumpers, more sculpted side sills, a rear spoiler and chrome exhaust tips, exclusive IPL 19in seven-spoke alloy wheels and two bespoke colours, ‘Graphite Shadow’ and ‘Malbec Black’.

Inside there are just two colour options – graphite and red – plus red-stitched leather sports seats and aluminium trim. The standard kit list includes a Bose audio system, hard disk-based sat-nav, voice recognition and a memory function on the driver’s seat.

The IPL G coupé is destined for the North American market; it’s said to be unlikely to appear in Europe.
