Tuner BBR offers a range of performance upgrades to the Ford Focus RS

Ford tuner BBR has announced a series of performance upgrades for the Focus RS that allows the mega hatch to produce 398bhp.

The upgrades, from the company that tuned the Cosworth RS500 engine for the BTCC in the 1980s, come in four different phases and range from remapping the ECU software to new performance parts for the engine. The modifications have taken 18 months to develop.

The £595 Phase One model includes an ECU remap, improving throttle response and making the turbo's delivery more linear. The remap boosts power to 337bhp over the standard car's 300bhp, while torque is up to 369lb ft from 325lb ft.

The Phase Two package replaces the standard intercooler with one of BBR's own design. A new air filter and inlet hose set are also added, in addition to the phase one upgrades, to boost power to 350bhp and torque to 378lb ft.

Phase Three upgrades include a new turbo, sports exhaust system and fuel injectors in addition to the previous upgrades to boost power to 377bhp and torque to 388lb ft. The final Phase Four package adds a new high-flow fuel pump and an even more advanced turbocharger to boost power to 398bhp and torque to 408lb ft. This Phase Four upgrade package costs £3895, plus a £595 fitting fee and also includes the previous three upgrade packages.

BBR is also offering changes to the suspension, including new springs and dampers.

Missed opportunity?, too find a away to fit 4wd?, wouldn't that be more good than shoving more and more BHP through the already over worked front wheels?, at this kind of power and particularily torque in a light-ish car, i'm surprised FORD hadn't looked at this !?.

Ridiculous torque to put through the front wheels, but the upgrade price is good value for money at four and a half grand. A lot of bang for the buck.

Much cheering from tyre manufacturers. Any guesses as to the limit tuners will go to put bhp and torque through the front drive Focus?

Tyre manufacturers will certainly be rejoicing. The 2010 Sport Auto Ultra High Performance Tyre Test used a Ford Focus RS and certainly chewed up some tyres. Of course, the most expensive tyres were the best (S001 won, Conti 5P placed second) meaning you'd need some seriously deep pockets to run this beat well!

£5 to the first person to see one of these beasts on budget tyres :D
