Excessive edition boasts upgraded springs, brakes and dampers, as well as styling changes

Volkswagen will launch a hardcore version of the Golf GTI at its annual Worthersee Tour event in Austria next week.

Although there are no changes to its 2.0-litre engine under the bonnet, the VW Golf GTI Excessive edition boasts wider tracks, revised springs and dampers, upgraded brake discs and pads and a new lightweight exhaust system.

Completing the modifications are new multi-spoke black 19-inch alloys equipped with semi-slick tyres, a new diffuser, sill extensions, new air dams, a new front splitter, rear diffuser and plastic wheel-arch extensions.

VW hasn’t said whether the Excessive edition is destined for production and says it remains as an evaluation concept at this stage. If it does make production, the Excessive would sit between the GTI and R models in the Golf’s range.

However, VW’s accessories department is keen to make some of the Excessive’s individual components, such as its springs and brakes, available as options for GTI buyers to fit to their cars.

No images of the VW Golf GTI Excessive edition have been released ahead of the car's launch next Thursday.

VW’s other model at Worthersee Tour will be the VW Golf GTI Adidas edition, which is pictured here.

The Adidas model is a tie-in with the famous German sports equipment firm and the changes to the VW Golf GTI for the model are purely cosmetic.

They include new 18-inch alloy wheels, Adidas detailing, the LED rear lights from the Golf R and unique interior trim. The LED rear lights will soon become standard across the Golf GTI’s range.

The VW Golf GTI Adidas edition will not go on sale in the UK.

Re: VW to launch hardcore GTI

I fear they didn't give it any more power for treading on the R's toes...another 10 or 15bhp would have been nice.
