Volt-based people carrier to be revealed at Beijing motor show

These patent drawings show a Chevrolet Volt-based MPV, which will be unveiled at the Beijing motor show next week autocar.co.uk sources have confirmed.

The vehicle will use the Volt's radical powertrain, which is called Voltec by GM, and which has always been designed to be used in a wide variety of vehicles.

Voltec consists of an electric drivetrain that can run on various sources of energy. It consists of a 53 kW direct engine-mounted generator and non-turbo four-cylinder 1.4-litre engine that allows drivers to keep going when the electric battery needs to be recharged.

No further details about the MPV have been released.
