Many of the styling elements will give a nod towards future BMW models and will be seen on the forthcoming new 3-series and 1-series.

The car has been dubbed 'EfficientDynamics Vision', but one suggestion is that it is a glimpse of the the styling of the new 6-series coupe.

From the pictures this would seem possible, the car having similar proportions to the current 6-series. The rear end is less bulbous than that of today's car.

The car itself appears to ride high, but this is probably due to a lack of engine and drivetrain.

Expect the concept to feature lightweight materials and aerodynamic developments to direct airflow across the car, contributing to a headline drag coefficient.

There is an interesting cut in the side sill mouldings and an aggressive front end.

“Anyone who takes a closer look at this concept car will understand the direction in which we are developing our technology,” said Dr Klaus Draeger, BMW management board member.

“And it will become evident that we will have to dedicate more human and financial resources to this type of development work.”
