BMW’s 3 Series has bagged the top gong at the prestigious

What Car?

Awards in London.

The 320d ES saloon picked up the top prize from

Autocar

’s sister title at the glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.

What Car?

Group Editor Steve Fowler commented, ‘The BMW 3 Series emerged as a clear winner. We’d expected BMW’s contender to be good, but we didn’t expect it to be this good. No other car is as great in so many ways as the 3 Series.’

What Car?

Awards included the Jaguar XK (Most Exciting Car of 2006), Skoda’s Octavia (Hot Hatch of the Year and Small Family Car of the Year), the Vauxhall Vectra (Estate of the Year) and Mazda’s MX-5 (Best Open-top) and RX-8 (Best Coupé). In addition, Citroën won the Safety Award and Toyota the Green Award for Environmental Vision.
