Calder Cabs of Edinburgh and West Lothian has become the first taxi company in Scotland to run a fleet of hybrid cabs.

West Lothian Council has said that the Toyota Prius can be licensed as a private hire vehicle, so Calder's fleet of six second-generation Toyota Priuses should help to lower the firm's CO2 output.

The Prius emits just 104g/km of CO2 and has a combined fuel economy of 65.7mpg.

Colin Paton and Andrew Liddle, directors of Calder Cabs said, “We are pleased to be able to respond positively to calls from the Scottish government for business to look at their carbon footprint and find ways to reduce this.”
