Toyota develops rear airbag
01 October 2008
Toyota has announced that it’s developed the world’s first rear-window airbag, and will use it on future models.
It’s been designed to protect back seat passenger in a rear-end collision. The new type of airbag deploys from the roof lining above the rear window and forms a protective barrier between the headrests in a crash.
It should help protect occupants from injuries like whiplash in the event of a rear-end smash.
This new rear airbag system will first be used on the tiny new iQ, where Toyota claims it will double the car’s level of rear passenger protection.
