Tokyo show: getting all touchy-feely
24 October 2007
From Chas Hallett in Tokyo
Toyota and Honda are getting all touchy-feely at this Tokyo show.
At Toyota especially they're banging on about people's relationships with their cars. The crazy RiN concept was the centrepiece of this effort; it's supposed to make you feel healthier driving, and even monitors you to point out if you're driving in a way that demonstrates tiredness or stress. And if you slam the door it gets stiffer to stop you doing it.
The whole thing is ludicrous. I actually got stressed and angry thinking that someone had wasted our time by putting it on display.
Nissan's Puyo calmed me down a bit. Puyo is a bit of Japanese onomatopoeia that means to touch something soft. Its a squidgy car made from recycled silicon. Completely bonkers, of course, but it made me laugh.
