Frankfurt motor show: Skoda Superb wagon

Skoda has released an official teaser image of its upcoming Superb estate, which will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show.
Skoda sources claim the luggage capacity of the Superb estate will be “huge”, although official figures have not been confirmed. It is likely to be larger in capacity to one of its chief rivals, the Volvo V70.

The teaser image shows its Octavia-inspired styling, and confirms that the innovative split hatchback from the regular model will not feature on the estate.
The estate is not expected to have a significantly longer wheelbase than that of the standard car, but it has a large rear overhang and is taller at the back. It also benefits from revised rear seating to maximise load space.
The engine line-up will include the three petrols and three diesels from the current Superb range, linked to five and six-speed gearboxes. DSG dual-clutch transmissions will also be an option.
A model with a Haldex developed four-wheel drive system is also expected to be available; speculation suggests it will be linked to the Superb's 3.6-litre V6 and the DSG gearbox to create a sports estate model.
Skoda has not indicated at any prices, but expect the Superb wagon to start at around £17,000 when it goes on sale next year. This price would represent a significant saving over the £23,745 cost for a standard V70.
