Porsche has confirmed it will make an all-electric sports car that will “offer the qualities typical of a Porsche”.

Soon-to-be-replaced CEO Michael Macht said the firm would “definitely be offering an electric sports car in future” but added: “Such a concept only makes sense if it offers product qualities typical of a Porsche.”

Porsche has also confirmed it is currently developing three all-electric prototypes based on the Boxster.

Porsche will begin field tests of the three cars early in 2011. The firm will monitor user behaviour, the prototypes themselves and the state of the current recharging infrastructure for all-electric vehicles.
