New Nissan GTR guns for 911

18 October 2006

When it comes to mixing technology and performance, no car comes close to the Nissan Skyline GTR. And as you can see in our spy shots and video, taken at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany, the next GTR promises to to be a cracker when it arrives in 2008.

To be known simply as the GTR, the next-generation Skyline promises to be even faster and more high-tech than its predecessors. Nissan has set the Porsche 911 GT3 as the benchmark, but the new GTR will cost around the same as a Carrera 2.

The GTR's exterior styling hasn’t altered much since the concept was unveiled at last year’s Japanese motor show. Under the sharp skin is a sophisticated four-wheel drive system which is expected to be twinned with four-wheel steering and active suspension.

Though a power unit is yet to be confirmed, the most obvious choice would be a twin-turbocharged version of the 350Z's V6 - or the forthcoming replacement engine - producing in the region of 400bhp. It certainly sounds like a V6 in the test car - watch our exclusive video here.

The GTR goes on sale in the UK in early 2008 for around £60,000.
