Mitsubishi continues to drip-feed us with news of the forthcoming new Lancer saloon, but it’s keeping mum about the much-anticipated new Evo.
The new Lancer makes its official debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September; both standard cars and the Evo will be revealed at the same time.
What won't be on show then is the forthcoming new Lancer hatch, which Mitsubishi says will follow the form of its Sportback concept.
The range will comprise a 109bhp 1.5-litre petrol, with a 142bhp 2.0-litre petrol and 138bhp 2.0-litre diesel – the latter supplied by VW, as in the Outlander.
The Evo will continue with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, though Mitsubishi’s not revealing any power outputs yet.
There are even more gearboxes than engines, with a choice of five-speed or six-speed manuals, CVT, four-speed automatic and six-speed automated manual.
The Lancer saloon goes on sale in the UK in January 2008, while the hatchback joins the line-up later in the same year.
