This is the Mini John Cooper Works Convertible, which has made its public debut at the Geneva show.

The £23,470 Mini JCW Convertible uses the same 1.6-litre turbocharged engine as the JCW hatchback, producing 208bhp, 192lb ft of torque and returning 39.8mpg on the combined cycle. It cracks 0-62mph in 6.9sec and has a top sped of 148mph.

Like the regular hatch version, the Mini JCW Convertible gets a similar pack of mechanical upgrades over the mini Cooper S, including a new exhaust system, strengthened transmission, bigger brakes and a John Cooper Works accessories and aero kit.

Elsewhere on the stand, BMW celebrated the Mini’s 50th anniversary by displaying a red left-hand-drive Morris Mini Minor 850 reputed to be one of the first three off the production line.
