The Mini SUV's on-sale date is on track, despite rumours to the contrary, a BMW source has told Autocar.

The new Mini SUV will get its first public airing at the Geneva motor show and go on sale in September.

Our insider also revealed that the new SUV, built on a new platform, would be available in both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel drive forms.

It will also be powered by the four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines from the existing Mini range and carry over model designations; Cooper and Cooper S will be the range-toppers.

Pricing will undercut the BMW X1, meaning there will be humbler models in the line-up to weigh in at under £20,000.

One thing still to be decided, however, is the name for the first four-door Mini. Crossman and Countryman are two favoured options, but our source said that the matter is still being hotly debated in Munich.
