Mercedes is working on a facelifted CL coupe, in line with the recently tweaked S-class.

The car will be more appropriately named the S-class Coupe when it arrives next year and will feature LED daytime running lights in the mildy redesigned front lamp units.

Three air intakes now replace the single opening in the current car’s front bumper and there is also new door mirrors and LED rear lights. Also expect a host of new tech for the flagship two-door.

The S-class coupe could even get a hybrid powertrain, although this is unlikely from the launch.

The technology in the S400 Hybrid could be transferred straight into the two-door.

Engines available at the S-class coupe’s launch are likely to be the same as seen is the rest of the saloon’s range.

However, expect improvements in fuel economy and better performance thanks to new engine management techniques.
