Lotus is taking the Elise back to its origins with the new Elise S.
Priced at £23,995 on the road, the Elise S uses the 1.8-litre Toyota engine from the 111R in a lower state of tune. Since the demise of the K-series engine Lotus has lacked an entry-level Elise.
With 132bhp, Lotus claims the Elise S will get to 60mph in 5.8sec. That power is developed at a heady 6200rpm with a respectable 127lb ft of torque arriving at 4200rpm.
The Elise 111R becomes the Elise R and gains the Touring Pack as standard equipment. It is a deletable option; with it the Elise R costs £29,945 on the road.
