Our spies have caught Kia’s new mini MPV being put through its paces – the next link in the brand’s product renaissance.

The five-seat Meriva-rival will be based on the all-new platform used in the forthcoming Soul mini-SUV, which will also form the basis for the next generation Rio supermini. The MPV will become the third Kia model, following the Soul and Cee'd, to be produced in the company's Zilina factory in Slovakia.

Pricing will be keen and compact external dimensions should make it a practical city car.

Engine options will include the 1.6-litre diesel and petrol already available in the Cee’d. It’s unconfirmed whether the bigger 2.0-litre engines will also join the lineup.

We’ll have to wait for official details regarding price and naming, but expect the small Kia to sit below the new Soul and to go on sale next year.
