The new Hyundai ix35 will cost from £16,495 when it goes on sale in March - and Hyundai is pitching the car as a crossover in the mould of the Nissan Qashqai.

That price buys you a front-drive Style model, which comes with 17-inch wheels, Bluetooth and front and rear heated seats as standard.

Upgrade to Premium and you get 18-inch wheels, automatic lights, keyless entry and rain-sensing wipers. Four-wheel-drive ix35s start at £18,995.

All ix35s except the entry-level model (which gets a 2.0-litre petrol four) come with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, although Hyundai will introduce a 1.6-litre direct-injection petrol and a 1.7-litre diesel this autumn.
