LA Show: Honda FC Sport

20 November 2008

Honda has revealed this ground-breaking hydrogen-powered FC Sport concept at the Los Angeles show.

The three-seat coupe concept car explores the flexibility of the Japanese brand’s ‘V Flow’ hydrogen fuel cell technology. Until now, the emissions-free system has only been used in the FCX Clarity saloon.

Honda is promising supercar levels of performance from the FC Sport, thanks to lightweight construction and a powerful electric motor. The concept’s design and shape has been dictated by the need to maximise aerodynamic efficiency.

“The Honda FC Sport explores how to satisfy automotive performance enthusiasts in a world beyond petroleum," said Dan Bonawitz, vice president of Honda US.

Honda’s engineers have located the heaviest parts of the ‘V Flow’ system - the fuel cell stack and battery pack – low down between the rear seats for optimum weight distribution.

The electric motor sits just in front of the rear axle. As well as improving handling, this packaging frees up more space in the cabin.
