Regular Civic Type R not enough for you? Then you need to speak to Mugen, which has specialised in tuning the Japanese firm’s cars for years. It has launched the catchily-titled Dominator Super Charger at the Tokyo Auto Salon – and it promises to take Civic performance to new levels.

Mugen, which has links to Honda through both motorsport and road cars, has tuned the Civic’s regular two-litre, four-cylinder engine further and added a supercharger, taking its power output to an impressive 300bhp. The car also features a carbon fibre body kit, Brembo brakes and 18in alloy wheels. Sources hint that the Dominator is already slated for a limited production run, but it’s unlikely to make it beyond Japan.

Mugen also showed a tuned version of the Jazz at the Tokyo show. Called the Spec-D, its 1.5-litre engine has been tuned to produce 145bhp.
