Honda unveiled its new Accord Tourer concept car at Frankfurt today, and you can expect the production car to look almost identical.

The styling is undeniably closer to revolution than evolution, but there are plenty of improvements evident.

The angular lines are still there, but a more streamlined image has become the defining factor in updating the Accord's distinctive appearance.

The new Accord will also be wider than the outgoing car, in order to accommodate a cabin spacious enough to compete with the roomy new Mondeo, and to improve the dynamics.

The engine range will remain the same as in the current model, with petrol engines available in 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre capacity, and the 2.2-litre diesel engine remaining the default choice for most buyers.

However, all the units are to receive an overhaul, making the Accord one of the first models to achieve an entirely Euro-5 compliant engine range.

Honda claims that despite the emphasis on efficiency, performance will also be improved across the range.

The Accord Saloon and Tourer will arrive in the UK in summer 2008, and will be unveiled in production form at the Geneva show next March.
