General Motors has shown off its Corvette C6.R GT2 car, which is based on the Corvette ZR1.

The new racer will appear in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) next year and it will share its aluminium frame and chassis structure, steering system, aerodynamic package and body design with its ZR1 sibling.

The Corvette C6.R GT2 will be competing with rivals from Aston Martin, Ford, Panoz, BMW, Porsche and Ferrari in the revamped GT2 ALMS series.

Mark Kent, GM Racing manager, said, “One of the many benefits of the Corvette Racing programme has been the opportunity to demonstrate the technology transfer between the race car and the production car.

“The global movement toward a single GT class will allow us to compete head to head with more marketplace competitors while increasing both the production content of the Corvette C6.R race cars and the relevance of racing to our customers.”

GM will be introducing an all-new 5.5-litre V8 engine to use in the new car next season.
