With its mixture of 1950s F1-car looks and motorbike-like acceleration, the Brooke Double R is quite possibly the most exciting thing ever to come out of Devon (a county better known for cream teas and retired folks than speed-freaks).

However, even in range-topping 300bhp form, it’s obviously not exciting enough for the positively unhinged chaps who make it. So they’re adding a supercharger.

While the supercharger can boost output of the 2.3-litre Ford Cosworth engine to 400bhp, production cars are expected to run between 320 and 350bhp. Torque should increase 50 per cent from the 200lb ft produced by the naturally aspirated car.

So, just the 300lb ft and 350bhp in something weighing around 550kg....

The production car is still a few months away, but when it arrives expect the sort of performance that will slingshot the Double R from 0-60mph before you can say "clotted cream fudge".
