Audi has slotted a 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine into its TT Roadster.

The new entry-level Audi TT Roadster 1.8 TFSI uses the same motor already in service in the A3, A3 Cabriolet and A4.

In the Audi TT Roadster, the 158bhp 184lb ft is enough to get the car to 62mph in 7.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 139mph.

Audi also claims a creditable economy figure for the 1.8-litre TT Roadster of 40.9mpg combined, along with CO2 emissions of 159g/km (down from 36.2.mpg and 186g/km for the 2.0 TFSI version).

The Audi TT Roadster 1.8 TFSI is available with front-wheel drive only and in one trim level, which includes 17-inch ‘Y-design’ alloys.

The Audi TT Roadster 1.8 TFSI is priced at £23,910 (£3445 less than the 2.0 TFSI) and is available to order now, with first deliveries in April.
