Aston V12 Vantage at Shelsley

05 August 2009

Aston Martin is entering its V12 Vantage race car in the Shelsley Walsh National Hillclimb Festival later this month.

The car won its class in the Nurburgring 24 Hours in May (its first attempt), but it will be the first time the competition model has appeared in the UK.

Aston says the car is near-production standard. It will be driven by Richard Meaden, who was part of the Nurburgring team, and Autocar’s own chief road tester Matt Prior.

Aston Martin’s head of motorsport David King said, “The brief but daunting challenge of the Shelsley Walsh hillclimb is a complete contrast to the Nurburgring 24-hour race. As such, we are not expecting to beat the hillclimb specialists.

“However, it will be a privilege to give the car its UK competition debut at such a special and historic venue, which is on the doorstep of our global headquarters.”

The Aston Martin V12 Vantage will run on both days of the hillclimb in Worcestershire on 15-16 August.
