First pictures of Mazda 3 MPS released

Mazda has released the first pictures of its new Mazda 3 MPS hot hatch, due to be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March.

Details of the Mazda 3 MPS are yet to be confirmed, but the new hot hatch will use a revised version of the existing model’s turbocharged 2.3-litre direct-injection engine.

Power will still be delivered through the front wheels, but it is likely to be slightly increased over the 256bhp found in the current Mazda 3 MPS.

The pictures show a more aggressive-looking Mazda 3 with a large rear wing, deeper front bumper and wide bonnet scoop. Prices for the new Mazda 3 MPS will remain close to the current model’s £19k price tag when it goes on sale in June.

The new Mazda 3 MPS will also be joined at the show by a new stop-start model.

The Mazda 3 i-stop will use the company’s 2.0-litre direct-injection petrol engine to produce what is claimed to be the most fuel-efficient model in the Mazda 3 range, with a 12 per cent improvement in fuel economy.
