The Audi A6 has been crowned the inaugural Autocar Asian Car of the Year at the Beijing show

The Audi A6 has been crowned Autocar Asian Car of the Year. The award, which is in its first year and has been presented at the Beijing motor show, seeks to recognise the best new car from across the Asian continent.

Judges rated the A6 ahead of the Ford Fiesta Saloon, Kia Sportage, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Passat and Volvo S60. Audi bosses will be presented with the award at the Beijing motor show next month.

Judges said: “Audi’s new A6 comes loaded to the teeth with tech and has taken the game considerably forward since its last incarnation. It comes with a class-leading diesel engine, refined interiors and pliant comfortable ride.”

The winner was chosen by a panel of 18 auto experts from each edition of Autocar published in the Asian region.

To be eligible for the award, entrants must be commercially available and in series production in three or more asian markets where Autocar magazine is published. Shortlisted models must have been launched between October 1, 2010 and 31 September 2011.

Re: Audi A6 wins Asian Car of the Year

Broadly speaking Audi are known for tedious handling and average ride quality (and before the Audi owners here cover their screens in spittle, that description is Autocar's rather than mine) yet that has never slowed sales. Or awards.

Though I must say the big A8 diesel is an amazing car, even if its looks have been known to trigger narcolepsy. Perhaps when the company comes up with an all round interesting car people will suddenly stop buying them. Nowt so strange as folk...

I can't say I am an Audi fan to be honest but I take most articles in Car magazines with a pinch of salt as they all say different things!!

Re: Audi A6 wins Asian Car of the Year

the motor’s gruff aural presence

mediocre showing on mechanical refinement

still not the most refined premium-brand car in its class

Th A6 probably won due to the same blinkered thought process that allowed Autocar to make the above comments and then boldly proclaim the new 3 series a five star car....
