On the inside the S gets a leather steering wheel, heated seats with S badging and uprated sound-deadening measures.

To improve ride and handling for the S, suspension has been revised, track widened by 25mm, ride height lowered by 12mm at the front and 6mm at the back.

Powering the saloon model is the firm’s new 3.6-litre V6 engine, which produces 279bhp and 260lb ft of torque.

As with the saloon, the convertible gets S badging inside and out, 18-inch alloys and similar interior touches, as well as suspension revisions and the same V6 petrol engine, mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Prices for the saloon version start from $26,790 (£16,415), with the convertible priced from $32,490 (£20,000).
